A Light Snowfall: Poetic Associations Originating from the Scalp
When fingers pass through strands of hair and gently stroke the scalp, flakes of skin shed by metabolism break free, descending slowly through the air. It is a private imagery, often accompanied by a sense of disgust within daily life. Yet, as the viewing focus zooms in, the shedding of dead skin unfolds into a lightweight, poetic, and romantic spectacle within light, shadow, and space.
The exhibition A Light Snowfall takes the "renewal of the scalp" as its central metaphor, extending from the body's continuous self-updating phenomena to an exploration of materials and space. Bodily processes—such as broken hair, shedding skin, and epidermal renewal—are transformed into dust and debris, becoming a medium of interaction between the body and its environment. These tiny particles detached from the body redraw the boundaries of existence, rendering the body no longer a closed individual, but a state that continuously leaves traces in space and permeates its surroundings.
From the microscopic imagination sparked by physical changes, the inquiry extends to the fragile traces generated by repeated material manipulation. Furthermore, through audience participation, the artwork enters a constantly shifting exhibition mechanism, altering through touch, movement, and the passage of time.
Repetition / Non-repetition
Originating from the concept of bodily renewal, the work regards "repetition" not merely as the iteration of action, but as an ongoing process of sorting and transformation. Through repeated stacking, rubbing, consuming, and deforming, the material retains traces of physical intervention while revealing the uncertainties wrought by time.
The entry of the audience becomes an essential condition for the artwork to take place. Through a spatial design featuring playful elements and tactile cues, viewers are invited to approach, move, and touch—altering the state of the work through their actions.
Collaborative Mechanism: Key to the Senses
The discussion of renewal pushes from individual somatic experience toward collective co-creation. Key to the Senses incorporates the outcomes of workshops into the structure of the exhibition, allowing the lifespan of the artwork to extend beyond the opening and continuously unfold throughout the exhibition period.
